At Ghost Tattoo Co., innovation meets practicality. We did a quick interview with the designer behind the Demon Arm Rest, Tyler Do, to learn more about what makes this tattoo accessory a game-changer for artists and clients alike.
What inspired the design of the Demon Arm Rest?
“After talking with our artists, we noticed two major flaws in traditional knob-style armrests,” Tyler explains. “First was ease of use. Adjusting an armrest during a session—whether changing the height, angle, or position—was cumbersome. Artists had to loosen a knob, hold the armrest in place, and tighten it again, often repeating the process if it wasn’t just right."
"The second issue was cross-contamination. Every adjustment meant changing gloves, which interrupted the flow of a tattoo session. Our goal was simple: create a completely hands-free, knobless solution that lets artists adjust height and pad angle quickly and easily.”
Foot lever activated gas-strut height adjustment, and tri-pod style legs.
Walk us through the creative process and materials used:
The journey began with gathering feedback from artists about pain points, desired features, and pad preferences. From there, the design team took the ideas into the studio, 3D printing prototypes and testing them repeatedly until the design was perfected. “It was a cycle of design, test, iterate, and repeat. Once we were confident in the concept, we moved into production samples.”
Were there any unique challenges or surprises during production?
“The most difficult part was the quick-latch pad adjustment mechanism,” Tyler says. “We had to figure out how to give artists full freedom of angle and rotation while still allowing the pad to lock securely—without using knobs. This had never been done before, and it took months of testing and redesigns to find the ‘Goldilocks’ solution.”
Patened quick-latch system for 360 degree rotation and many arm pad angles.
How does the Demon Arm Rest enhance the tattooing experience?
The armrest is completely knobless, featuring a foot-lever actuated gas strut for height adjustments and a patented quick-latch system for pad positioning. Artists can adjust the armrest exactly where they need it—all without changing gloves. “It keeps sessions smooth and uninterrupted, making life easier for both the artist and the client,” the designer noted.
Arm pad can be set to any angle from 0 - 90 degrees.
Hidden design details fans might not notice:
Like Ghost Tattoo Co.’s famous Tattoo Tray, the Demon Arm Rest is modular. Artists can swap out pads without buying a whole new system. Currently, there are smaller pads, coffin-shaped pads, and heart-shaped pads in production—all interchangeable and ready to customize any tattoo setup.
Standard Demon arm pad with stretched leather will be interchangeable with new shapes and size pads.
